Molly Fish Care: Tank Size, Temperature & Types
Mollies are social livebearers sold under a broad trade name. Identify the species or domestic form first; plan at least 45 litres for a small group of smaller mollies or 80 litres for sailfins, then verify adult size, water, sex ratio and the complete community.

Silver Sailfin Molly (Poecilia velifera)
Silver Sailfin Molly (Poecilia velifera) needs hard, alkaline water.
Quick facts
- Scientific name: Poecilia velifera
- Adult size: about 12-15 cm
- Minimum aquarium: 150 litres or larger
- Temperature: 25-28C
- pH: 7.5-8.5
- Diet: omnivore with algae and plant matter
Care and setup
Provide hard, alkaline water, open swimming space, planted edges and regular vegetable-rich feeding. Avoid soft acidic water and sudden changes, as sailfin mollies do best in mineral-rich systems.
Compatibility
A peaceful livebearer for other hard-water community fish. Keep males with enough space and females to reduce chasing, and avoid soft-water species that need very different conditions.

I have a small group of long finned mountain minnows. So was delighted to be able to order ten of this variety to increase the genetics in my tank . The ones I recieved are healthy but it’s to early to give a verdict on wether they are of a long finned type since they are small currently.

100% success travel and "installation". Pleased with quality of purchase. The Siamese fighter a bit "shy" so have not yet seen him at his best yet but looking good. Happy customer. GG
