Frequently asked questions

No snail is best for every aquarium or a guaranteed algae treatment. Many commonly sold Nerites graze biofilm, diatoms and some attached algae, but performance, food needs and lifecycle vary by species and individual. Identify the algae and correct the underlying light, nutrient or maintenance issue as well.
Identify the exact species before buying and avoid chronic excess food. Reproductive strategy varies: many commonly sold tropical Nerites do not normally establish populations in freshwater, while other aquarium snails can reproduce there. Do not add a predator as an automatic fix; first address feeding and arrange responsible long-term care for every animal.
Compatibility depends on the exact snail and companion. Screen fish for snail predation or shell picking, compare water and medicine requirements, allow enough food for other grazers and avoid assuming that a peaceful label guarantees safety.
Use the full species or trade name. The Rabbit, Spixi, Nerite, Ramshorn and Assassin offers are different animals; colour and size grades do not establish identical food, water, breeding or compatibility requirements. Ask about the current stock if the identity is unclear.
Check the stated sale unit, the named animal’s food needs, the surfaces or space available and the other livestock. A fixed snails-per-litre rule cannot settle those questions. Confirm the selected size’s availability and plan for the adult animal before choosing a quantity.
