Discus (Symphysodon) are shoaling Amazon cichlids that reach 15 cm or more, need 27-30°C water and a group of five or more in 200 litres plus — about 40 litres per adult. Young brown and blue discus start from around £12 on this page and named strains from about £30; all are live stock, dispatched Wednesday for Thursday delivery under our Live Arrival Guarantee.
Discus (Symphysodon spp.) are the king of the freshwater aquarium, and they're a fish we ship with extra care: extended bagging, extra heat packs outside summer, and dispatch only on Wednesday for Thursday delivery so a delivery never spans a weekend.

Discus are a step up in difficulty: warm water (27-30°C), excellent water quality and a group of five or more in 200+ litres. Frequently asked questions
They're demanding rather than impossible: stable 27-30°C water, low nitrates (generous weekly water changes), soft-to-medium hardness and a mature tank. They're not a first-fish choice, but a keeper with one successful community tank behind them can absolutely move up to discus.
Five or more. Discus are shoaling cichlids with a pecking order — pairs or trios let a dominant fish bully the rest. Budget roughly 40 litres per adult: a group of five wants a 200L+ tank, ideally taller than standard.
