Maintain these water conditions for optimal health and vibrant colors
Red Melon Discus is selected for its rich red colour and classic tall discus shape, not because Red Melon is a separate Latin species. This is a domestic discus colour strain in the genus Symphysodon; the strain name stays in the customer-facing title, while the scientific anchor is Symphysodon spp. (domestic discus strain).
It works best as a warm-water display fish for keepers who are ready to keep chemistry, temperature and feeding consistent over the long term. Expect a peaceful mid-water cichlid with expert-level needs: warm, stable water, careful acclimatisation, disciplined maintenance and a mature aquarium of at least 250 litres.
Tank mates should be quiet and warm-water tolerant: other peaceful discus, cardinal tetras, rummy-nose tetras, Corydoras, Otocinclus and gentle dwarf cichlids are safer choices than nippy, aggressive, coldwater or hard-water fish.
