This is an expert-level mid-water cichlid for mature warm aquariums. Keep the water steady at 28–32 °C, pH 5.5–7.0 and low hardness, and plan for at least 250 litres so the fish has space and the water stays stable.
Choose calm tank mates that tolerate discus temperatures: other peaceful discus, cardinal tetras, rummy-nose tetras, Corydoras, Otocinclus and gentle dwarf cichlids. Avoid nippy, aggressive, coldwater or hard-water fish.
Feed a varied omnivore discus diet with quality discus granules or pellets, frozen bloodworm, brine shrimp, mysis and other protein-rich foods.
