The strain name should not be read as a Latin species; the correct care anchor is the discus group, especially the Symphysodon aequifasciatus complex used for many domestic aquarium lines.

Build the aquarium around the discus, not around a random community mix. Use mature biological filtration, gentle circulation, stable heat and a maintenance routine that keeps nitrate and dissolved waste low. Smooth wood, open swimming space, dark backgrounds and heat-tolerant plants work well.
Keep Red Marlboro Discus in a group where possible. Groups spread hierarchy pressure and help the fish behave more naturally. Single juveniles often become stressed or shy, especially in busy tanks.
