Eastern Bottlenose Mormyrid is a large African weakly electric fish for advanced aquarists. Its long snout, bottom-foraging behaviour and sensitivity make it fascinating, but it needs a very spacious stable aquarium and should not be confused with a knifefish.
Use dim lighting, soft sand, smooth wood or pipes for shelter and strong but steady filtration. Avoid sharp gravel because the snout is delicate, and feed varied meaty foods after the fish has settled.
Choose calm companions that will not steal all bottom foods or harass a sensitive nocturnal fish. Avoid tiny fish, rough cichlids, cramped tanks and bright bare aquariums.
