Cichlids are a family of roughly 1,800 accepted species, not one care type. Before buying, identify the exact species and source, then compare adult measurement, usable tank dimensions, social system, territory, tested water, diet and an exit plan. No family-wide minimum tank, water range or tank-mate list is safe.

Tropheus are kept in groups: plan a long rock aquarium of about 300 litres or more for a group of eight or more, with plenty of rockwork and caves, open swimming space, very good filtration and frequent water changes. Keep 23–27°C, pH 8–9.5 and 8–25 dGH, with stable conditions and regular partial water changes. Add the fish only to a cycled, mature aquarium.
An algae grazer: feed a vegetable-based flake or pellet with spirulina, in small portions several times a day. Avoid rich high-protein foods such as bloodworm, which can cause bloat in Tropheus.
Aggressive towards their own kind, so keep a large group to spread aggression, with other robust Lake Tanganyika rock-dwellers. Not suitable for a general community aquarium.
Tropical Fish Co’s delivery and Live Arrival Guarantee policy explains the packing and arrival procedure. What customers say about ordering from us
I have a small group of long finned mountain minnows. So was delighted to be able to order ten of this variety to increase the genetics in my tank . The ones I recieved are healthy but it’s to early to give a verdict on wether they are of a long finned type since they are small currently.
