Silver Arowana (Osteoglossum bicirrhosum) is a giant South American surface predator for expert aquarists only. It can reach around 90 cm and needs a huge, covered aquarium with strong filtration and careful feeding.
Plan from the beginning for a very large aquarium with a solid secure lid, open swimming length and powerful filtration. Silver Arowana jump strongly and should never be treated as a normal community centrepiece.
Feed floating predator pellets, prawns, mussel, insects and other meaty foods. Avoid relying on feeder fish because they can introduce disease and encourage refusal of prepared foods.
Keep singly or with robust tank mates too large to swallow in a very large system. Small fish, shrimp and delicate tank mates are not suitable.
