Silver Albino Arowana (Osteoglossum bicirrhosum) is a pale form of the South American Silver Arowana for expert keepers with very large aquariums. It is a powerful surface predator, famous for its long body, upturned mouth and confident cruising behaviour.
| Scientific name | Osteoglossum bicirrhosum |
|---|---|
| Adult size | 80-100 cm possible |
| Minimum aquarium | 1000 litres or larger for long-term adult care |
| Temperature | 24-28 C |
| pH | 6.0-7.5 |
| Temperament | Large predatory surface fish |
| Diet | Floating carnivore pellets and varied meaty foods |
This is an advanced fish from day one. Use a long, covered aquarium with excellent filtration, open surface swimming room and stable water quality. Arowanas jump with force, so a secure lid is not optional. The adult tank must be planned before purchase, not after the fish has outgrown a temporary setup.
The albino colour form needs the same husbandry as the standard Silver Arowana. Good lighting, clean water and calm surroundings help show the pale body and long fins without causing stress.
Feed a varied carnivore diet built around quality floating pellets, prawns, mussel, earthworm and other appropriate meaty foods. Avoid fatty mammal meat and avoid live feeder fish. A steady routine is better than overfeeding.
Choose only large, calm fish that will not fit in the arowana mouth and will not compete aggressively at the surface. Compare with Silver Arowana, Australian Bonytongue and Blue Arowana if you are choosing between bonytongues. Advanced keepers may also compare oddballs such as Freshwater Moray. For feeding support, see Cichlid & Arowana Large Sticks.
Order Silver Albino Arowana only when your covered aquarium is mature and sized for long-term care. Livestock is packed for dispatch across the UK and sent by a licensed live-animal courier where live-animal shipping applies. Livestock orders are covered by our Live Arrival Guarantee.
For related large fish, compare Silver Arowana, Australian Bonytongue, Blue Arowana, Freshwater Moray.
