Help with your choice

Start with the aquarium, then choose the cichlid

Dwarf describes relative size, not one temperament or water requirement. This range brings together South American and African fish with different needs. Match the selected species to measured water and usable territories, including cover and escape routes for subordinate fish. A small aquarium can leave little room to avoid a breeding or territorial neighbour.

Read form, sex and quantity separately

Named species sit alongside colour strains, locality labels and provisional trade forms. Keep those qualifications when comparing fish; colour does not establish sex or lineage. Explicit two-fish packs supply two animals, but do not promise a bonded breeding pair. Check any stated sex and plan a way to separate incompatible individuals.
