Aquarium and water

Use a mature, cycled aquarium of 60 litres or more as an existing retailer planning baseline, with gentle flow, swimming space and planted retreats. Footprint and adult stocking matter; a larger setup may be needed as the group grows. Existing 22–28°C, pH 7.0–8.0 and 9–18 dGH guidance is practical retailer husbandry, not current holding measurements or a strain-tolerance guarantee. Published species and group references differ, so compare recent holding water and acclimate gradually rather than abruptly chasing a number. Test ammonia and nitrite, control waste and make measured partial water changes. Feeding

Feed a quality small flake or micro-pellet once or twice a day, with small frozen or live foods such as Daphnia, brine shrimp and bloodworm a few times a week. Offer only what the fish clear in a couple of minutes.

Tank mates and behaviour

Choose calm companions with matching long-term water, temperature, adult size and feeding needs, rather than assuming every tetra, rasbora or Corydoras is suitable. Avoid persistent fin-nippers and predators. Long fins can make fancy males vulnerable to harassment, and many tank mates — including adult guppies — may eat fry.

Follow the arrival sequence before releasing the fish

4. Do not pour the bag water into the aquarium. Release the fish without adding transport water to the established system.
