Use rockwork, caves, open sand or gravel and strong filtration. The previous adult-size field confused supplier sale size with adult size; plan for a much larger adult cichlid.
Suitable companions must be robust, similarly sized and chosen with care. Avoid small community fish, soft-water species and any tank where a pair cannot hold territory safely.
