A dwarf cichlid for a mature, planted aquarium of about 60 litres or more with caves, fine sand and gentle flow. Keep 22–26°C, pH 5.5–7.5 and 5–20 dGH, with stable conditions and regular partial water changes. Add the fish only to a cycled, mature aquarium.
An omnivore: feed quality micro pellets or flake with small frozen foods such as Daphnia, brine shrimp and bloodworm.
Peaceful outside breeding; keep with calm fish of similar size such as tetras, rasboras and Corydoras. A pair defends a cave when spawning.
