Tropical

Tropical Supervit Granulat is a complete, multi-ingredient sinking granule food for ornamental aquarium fish. Tropical formulates it for omnivorous and carnivorous fish that take food through the middle and lower parts of the aquarium. The approximately 1.5 mm granules make it a practical everyday option for many mixed tropical communities, but the food still needs to match the size and natural diet of the fish you keep.

One quantity buys one pack in the size you select: either a 10 g zip-sachet or a 100 ml / 55 g tub. The food inside is the same Supervit Granulat formula. Choose the sachet for a trial, a small aquarium or occasional use, and the tub when this food is already part of a regular feeding routine.

The manufacturer describes Supervit Granulat as a complete feed, not a treat or colour supplement. It contains fish ingredients, plant ingredients, protein extracts, molluscs and crustaceans, cereals, algae, yeast, oils, fats and minerals. Beta-glucan, stabilised vitamin C, carotenoids, fibre, chitin and lecithin are included within that broader recipe. Feed small portions several times during the day, allowing the fish to finish each portion within about two to three minutes.

What is Tropical Supervit Granulat?

Supervit Granulat is the sinking-granule member of Tropical's Supervit range. It is different from Supervit flakes, tablets, chips and Supervit Mini Granulat. The standard granules are about 1.5 mm across and are designed to move away from the surface, making food available to fish that do not compete well for floating flakes.

The formula is intended for everyday feeding of suitable omnivorous and carnivorous aquarium fish. "Complete feed" means the manufacturer has formulated it to provide a broad nutritional base when it is fed as directed. It does not mean every aquarium species should receive exactly the same food. Very small fry, obligate or strongly specialised feeders, large predators and fish with a plant-heavy diet may need a different particle size or a more specific recipe.

A mixed community can contain surface, mid-water and bottom-feeding fish. Sinking granules help distribute feeding opportunities, but they do not guarantee that shy fish receive enough. Watch individual fish rather than assuming food that disappears has been shared evenly. Fast barbs, livebearers or cichlids may take most of a meal before quieter fish reach it.

Choose the right pack size

Option What one quantity buys When it is useful Packaging note
10 g zip-sachet One 10 g resealable sachet Trying the food, travel, a small aquarium or occasional rotation The current gallery image shows this sachet format
100 ml / 55 g tub One 100 ml tub containing 55 g Regular feeding in a community aquarium that uses the food steadily The tub packaging differs from the sachet shown

Choose by likely use rate rather than headline volume alone. Dry food is most useful while it remains fresh, dry and palatable. A smaller pack can be the better choice for one lightly stocked aquarium, while the 55 g tub is more convenient for larger communities or several tanks. The variant selector controls the pack supplied; the options are not a multi-pack or bundle.

Granule size and feeding position

Tropical specifies a sinking granule of approximately 1.5 mm. That size is suitable for many small-to-medium aquarium fish that can swallow it cleanly. It may be too large for tiny fry and some nano fish. If a fish repeatedly mouths and spits out the granule, switch to a genuinely finer food rather than relying on crushed pieces for every meal.

The granules are intended for fish that take food from the water column or aquarium floor. Add a small portion and watch its path. If everything reaches the substrate before mid-water fish feed, use a smaller scatter over a wider area. If fast fish dominate one spot, split the same total portion across two or three locations. Do not increase the total amount simply to make food reach the bottom.

Bottom-feeding fish still need species-appropriate nutrition. A sinking granule is not automatically a complete bottom-feeder diet. Corydoradinae, loaches, catfish and other benthic fish can differ substantially in their natural feeding behaviour. Check that each species receives the right particle size and nutrient balance rather than feeding by aquarium zone alone.

Ingredients

The manufacturer's current composition lists fish and fish derivatives; products of vegetable origin, including red pepper extract at 2,000 mg/kg; vegetable protein extracts; molluscs and crustaceans; cereals; algae; yeast, including beta-1,3/1,6-glucan at 1,000 mg/kg; oils and fats; and mineral feed materials, including 1% zeolite.

This is a mixed animal-and-plant formula. It contains ingredients from fish, molluscs and crustaceans and is not a vegetarian food. The exact ingredient list printed on the pack supplied should remain the final reference if the manufacturer updates the recipe. Check the physical label before use when a particular ingredient matters to your aquarium or handling routine.

Declared component Manufacturer value How to read it
Crude protein 48.0% A protein-rich complete food for suitable omnivorous and carnivorous ornamental fish
Crude oils and fats 8.0% Part of the energy and fatty-acid contribution of the recipe
Crude fibre 3.0% A declared analytical fraction, not the same as total plant content

Vitamins, trace elements and functional ingredients

Per kilogram, Tropical declares vitamin A at 29,800 IU, vitamin D3 at 1,890 IU, vitamin E at 100 mg and vitamin C at 500 mg. Declared trace elements include iron 37.8 mg, zinc 10.5 mg, manganese 7.8 mg, copper 1.7 mg, iodine 0.23 mg, selenium 0.23 mg and molybdenum 0.05 mg. The formula also contains colourants and antioxidants.

Beta-glucan and stabilised vitamin C are included to support normal immune function. Fibre and chitin support digestion, while natural carotenoids, including a red pepper source, support the expression of colour already determined by the fish's genetics, condition and environment. These are nutritional support claims, not a treatment for disease, poor water quality or an unsuitable aquarium.

The manufacturer states that the recipe contains no genetically modified ingredients, preservatives, flavour enhancers or added flavours. Product formulation and labelling can change, so use the label on the delivered pack when it differs from older web or catalogue information.

Which fish can eat it?

The manufacturer positions Supervit Granulat for omnivorous and carnivorous ornamental fish that feed in mid-water or from the bottom. Examples in Tropical's own product information include livebearers, barbs, gouramis, Corydoradinae, hoplo catfish, angelfish, rainbowfish and several cichlids. Suitability still depends on mouth size, life stage and the wider diet.

Many tetras, rasboras, danios, barbs, platies, mollies, swordtails, gouramis and appropriately sized community cichlids can use these granules as part of a balanced routine. Observe whether each species actually swallows the granules. A fish carrying food and then spitting it out repeatedly is not receiving a useful meal.

Use a more specific food when the standard granule does not fit. Tiny fry and the smallest fish need a finer particle. Strongly herbivorous species need a plant-rich recipe matched to their digestive strategy. Large fish may ignore a 1.5 mm granule or require a larger food. Specialist predators may need frozen, live or species-specific prepared foods rather than a general community staple.

How much and how often to feed

Tropical's direction is to feed several times during the day in small portions, with each portion eaten within about two to three minutes. That is an upper observation window, not a target amount. Begin with less, watch every feeding zone, and stop when the fish lose interest or food begins to settle where it will not be eaten.

  1. Add a very small first portion.
  2. Watch which fish eat and whether the granules are an appropriate size.
  3. Use a second small scatter only when the first has been taken cleanly.
  4. Remove accessible leftovers instead of leaving them to soften and decay.
  5. Reduce the next meal if granules repeatedly reach hidden areas or the filter.

The correct portion changes with fish number, size, temperature, activity, health and the other foods used that day. There is no reliable universal pinch size. Overfeeding adds waste and can reduce water quality; underfeeding or unequal access can leave shy fish thin even when dominant fish look well fed.

Introducing a new dry food

Offer a small amount alongside a familiar food at first. Some fish need several feeds to recognise a new texture. Do not keep adding granules when fish refuse them. Remove uneaten food, try again later, and check whether the granule size and formula suit the species.

Making feeding fairer

Scatter the meal across more than one point, feed timid fish after the most competitive fish have taken an initial portion, and observe the bottom after feeding. In a mixed aquarium, alternating foods can be more useful than trying to make one granule satisfy every species at every meal.

When to choose another Tropical food

For a greater plant and algae component, compare Tropical 3-Algae Granulat. For a colour-focused granule rotation, see Tropical Vitality & Color Granules. These alternatives are not automatically better; the right choice depends on the fish and the purpose of the feeding plan.

For smaller fish, compare Tropical Supervit Mini Granulat. For fry or very small mouths, Tropical Mikrovit Hi-Protein provides a finer specialist option. Plant-eating bottom feeders may be better served by a wafer format such as Tropical Green Algae Wafers. Browse the wider fish food range by form and dietary purpose.

Storage and freshness

Close the sachet or tub after each use and keep it cool, dry and away from direct sunlight, aquarium spray and condensation. Do not store the pack on a warm light unit or leave it open beside the aquarium. Use a dry hand or utensil so moisture is not introduced to the remaining food.

Check the best-before and batch information printed on the delivered pack. Replace food that has become damp, clumped, unusually soft, discoloured or stale-smelling. A large pack is not better value if it remains open so long that quality declines before it is used.

Product image and packaging

The current gallery image shows the front of a Tropical Supervit Granulat 10 g sachet. It is a product-pack reference, not a picture of the individual pack that will be dispatched. Design details, language and label layout may change between manufacturing batches. The 100 ml / 55 g option is supplied in a tub and will not look like the sachet shown.

Frequently asked questions

What does one quantity buy?

One quantity buys one pack in the selected option: either one 10 g zip-sachet or one 100 ml tub containing 55 g.

Are the two variants the same food?

Yes. Both options are Tropical Supervit Granulat. The difference is the pack format and amount, not the formula.

Does Supervit Granulat sink?

Yes. Tropical describes it as a sinking granule for fish that take food through the middle and lower water layers.

How large are the granules?

The manufacturer specifies approximately 1.5 mm. Check that every fish can swallow the granule comfortably.

Is it suitable for daily feeding?

It is formulated as a complete everyday food for suitable omnivorous and carnivorous ornamental fish. A varied feeding plan may still be appropriate for the species you keep.

How long should a portion take to eat?

Feed small portions several times daily and use about two to three minutes as the manufacturer's maximum consumption window. Stop earlier when the fish have finished.

Can I feed it to fry?

The standard approximately 1.5 mm granule is too large for many fry. Use a properly sized fry or micro food rather than assuming crushed standard granules suit every life stage.

Is it a vegetarian fish food?

No. The declared composition includes fish ingredients, molluscs and crustaceans as well as plant ingredients, cereals, algae and yeast.

Does the 100 ml tub contain 100 g?

No. The listed tub volume is 100 ml and the declared food weight is 55 g.

Will the 55 g tub look like the gallery image?

No. The current gallery image shows the 10 g sachet. The 100 ml / 55 g option is a tub, and packaging details may vary by batch.

I have a small group of long finned mountain minnows. So was delighted to be able to order ten of this variety to increase the genetics in my tank . The ones I recieved are healthy but it’s to early to give a verdict on wether they are of a long finned type since they are small currently.
