Maintain these water conditions for optimal health and vibrant colors
Kipili Gold Featherfin Cichlid is a Lake Tanganyika form of Ophthalmotilapia nasuta. The previous supporting fields had severe contamination from Salvini, Yellow Belly and Jack Dempsey-style Central American cichlid copy. This is a Tanganyika featherfin cichlid, so the care, water and temperament notes are completely different.
| Adult size | Plan around 18-20 cm for mature males in aquaria |
|---|---|
| Minimum aquarium | 350 litres or more, with long open sand areas |
| Water | 23-26°C, pH 8.0-9.0, hard alkaline Lake Tanganyika conditions |
| Diet | Small planktonic and invertebrate foods; fine cichlid pellets and frozen foods |
| Temperament | Specialist featherfin; males need sand territory and calm compatible tank mates |
Use fine sand, open swimming space, rock retreats and strong filtration. Mature males display over sand and should not be crowded with aggressive mbuna-style fish. Do not mix similar Ophthalmotilapia colour forms if you are trying to preserve locality/form identity.
