The White Tail Acei originates from the Ngara region of Lake Malawi, where it inhabits areas around submerged logs and tree branches rather than rocks. This unusual habitat preference among mbuna makes it a fascinating species. The «Ngara» variant is distinguished by its white caudal fin.
Provide a minimum of 250 litres with a combination of rocks and driftwood. These 3-5cm juveniles will reach approximately 15 cm as adults. Maintain water temperature between 24–28°C with a pH of 7.5–8.5 and hardness of 10–20 dGH. Include driftwood to replicate their natural habitat.
The White Tail Acei is a herbivore. Offer spirulina-based pellets, algae wafers, blanched vegetables, and quality cichlid food. They naturally graze on wood-growing algae. Feed once or twice daily.
Good companions include other mbuna and Synodontis catfish. The Acei’s peaceful nature makes it one of the best mbuna for mixed tanks. You might also consider species such as Lwanda Peacock Cichlid, Cobue Dogtooth Cichlid, and Red Fin Cichlid from our collection.
