Apistogramma sp. Wilhelmi is collected from the Rio Abacaxis and its tributaries in the Brazilian Amazon. This blackwater habitat features extremely soft, acidic water with sandy substrates, leaf litter, and fallen branches. As an undescribed species, it is rarely available in the hobby.
Provide a minimum of 60 litres for an Apistogramma Wilhelmi pair. Maintain water temperature between 24–28°C with a pH of 5.0–7.0 and very soft water of 0–10 dGH. Use caves, driftwood, and Indian almond leaves to create blackwater conditions and provide hiding spots.
This species is primarily a carnivore. Offer frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, live foods, and high-quality micro pellets. Feed small amounts twice daily for optimal colour development.
Good companions include small tetras, Corydoras, Otocinclus, and Pencilfish. Avoid housing with large cichlids, aggressive fish, and other Apistogramma males. You might also consider the Apistogramma Juriensis or the Apistogramma Macmasteri Red Mask from our collection.
