Origin & Natural Habitat
Geosesarma species hail from the tropical forests of Java, Indonesia, where they live along stream banks in humid forest floor habitats. They are primarily terrestrial, spending most of their time on land but requiring access to shallow freshwater.
Tank Setup & Water Parameters
Create a paludarium with 70% land and 30% shallow water (5-10 cm deep). Use a moisture-retaining substrate like coconut fibre on the land portion. Add live moss, leaf litter, and hiding spots using cork bark and coconut hides. Maintain humidity at 75-85% and temperature at 22-28°C. A secure lid is essential — these crabs are skilled escape artists.
Feeding Guide
These omnivorous crabs eat a wide variety of foods: crushed fish pellets, freeze-dried bloodworms, blanched vegetables, small fruit pieces, and leaf litter. Supplement with cuttlebone for calcium to support healthy shell development. Feed small amounts daily.
Compatible Tank Mates
Keep in a species-only paludarium with a colony of 4-6 crabs. Multiple hiding spots reduce territorial conflicts. Not suitable for community aquariums with fish or shrimp.
