Help with your choice

Small sale sizes can hide a large adult

Black Upside-Down Catfish, Synodontis nigriventris, is a different choice from False Upside-Down Catfish, S. nigrita. Featherfin, Angel and Large-Spot Synodontis can become much larger. Compare the complete species name and adult needs; a small juvenile or a similar spotted pattern is not evidence of a small adult.

Compare African catfish types
River and lake species need separate plans

Tanganyikan petricola, granulosus and multipunctatus offers sit alongside river species with different water and habitat needs. Do not apply one Rift Lake water recipe to the whole selection. Brichardi needs particular attention to flow and oxygenation; assess the named fish and its adult floor space before selecting companions.

Make sure food reaches each catfish

Provide secure retreats with feeding access, especially when other residents are faster at taking food. These fish are not substitutes for routine cleaning. Black and Silver multipunctatus wording describes particular trade offers, not a guarantee of ancestry or breeding. Microsynodontis batesii is retained under its own genus and needs its own assessment.
