A minimum of 200L for a shoal of 4–6 Angelfish, as they grow to 15cm body length and need vertical space — at least 45cm tall. A pair establishing dominance may need even more room to avoid bullying weaker tank mates.
Angelfish are cichlids and develop territorial behaviour, especially when breeding. They are peaceful in a community context but may eat small fish like Neon Tetras and can bully slower-moving tankmates when paired up. Mixed-size groups reduce targeted aggression.
In theory yes — they share similar water parameters and South American origins — but Angelfish are often carriers of pathogens (like Hexamita) that hit Discus hard. Many experienced keepers avoid mixing them, or only do so with quarantined, disease-free stock.
It's difficult outside of breeding condition. Males often develop a slight forehead hump and may be longer-finned. The only reliable method is observing the breeding tubes when they spawn — the female's is shorter and blunter than the male's pointed tube.
Angelfish are omnivores — feed a varied diet of quality flakes or pellets, supplemented with frozen bloodworm, brine shrimp and daphnia. Occasional live food like blackworms conditions breeding pairs. Feed twice daily in small amounts.
