Lighting does two jobs: it shows off your fish and, in a planted tank, it powers plant growth. The right unit depends on whether you keep plants, how deep the tank is, and whether you want simple illumination or programmable control.

Match the light to the tank. A fish-only tank needs enough light to view the fish; a planted tank needs the correct spectrum and intensity for the plants you're growing. Check each product for tank size, spectrum and mounting details before ordering.
