The betta fish is one of the most popular and most misunderstood freshwater species. This guide covers everything from proper tank size to the truth about tank mates.
Maintain these water conditions for optimal health and vibrant colors
Albino bettas are genuinely uncommon, which makes this XL albino veiltail male something of a collector's listing. The fish pairs the Libby split-tailed veiltail finnage with the pale, pigment-free albino colouring the name describes — a ghostly look that stands out instantly against plants or dark hardscape. At XL grade he arrives at around 6 cm, fully grown and fully finned.
This strain carries a moderate care rating, a step up from the standard veiltail, so he is better suited to a keeper with one successful betta behind them than to a complete novice. His semi-aggressive temperament gives slightly more flexibility than a true fighter: the record allows peaceful small bottom dwellers in suitably sized tanks, snails, calm non-nippy community fish in larger aquariums, and shrimp only with caution in heavily planted setups. The hard limits stay firm — no other male bettas, no fin-nippers, nothing aggressive or territorial, no large predators, and no fast, boisterous species that will outpace and stress him. He keeps to the upper water and turns territorial around breeding. Water-wise he is undemanding: 24–28 °C, pH anywhere from 6.0 to a relatively alkaline 7.8, and as little as 19 litres of properly heated, filtered space.
Caring for an albino is mostly ordinary betta keeping with one extra habit: observation. Pale fish show stress, nipped fins and colour changes in their finnage faster than dark ones, so a glance at feeding time tells you everything about his condition. Feed him as the carnivore his record states, keep the heater set inside 24–28 °C, and use his wide pH tolerance — up to 7.8 — rather than chasing soft-water perfection he does not need. If you try the calm community his semi-aggressive rating cautiously allows, choose the larger aquarium his record specifies and introduce him after the other fish. Expect around three years of life, and expect him to be the first fish visitors notice.
Albinos appear in our stock far less often than standard colours, so availability is the limiting factor rather than price. If the strain is on your wish list, order while listed — each fish ships with a licensed live-animal courier under our live arrival guarantee.
