Coral Red Saulosi Mbuna (Chindongo saulosi)
23–27°C · pH 7.4–8.4 · 150L

Bright albino Lake Malawi mbuna for mature hard-water aquariums with rockwork, strong filtration and a vegetable-led diet.
Adult size is the maximum length this species reaches at full maturity (scientific sources). The livestock you receive will be younger and smaller — pick a size variant above for the actual shipping size. Photos are AI-enhanced, so the animal may show subtle colour or marking differences.
Chindongo socolofi (syn. Pseudotropheus socolofi), albino form
Snow White Cichlid bond and breed in male/female pairs — buying a pair gives them the social structure they need.

Snow White Cichlid, also called Albino Pindani, is the pale albino form of the Lake Malawi mbuna commonly known as Chindongo socolofi or Pseudotropheus socolofi. It is bright, active and strongly territorial, so it belongs in a rock-filled Malawi aquarium rather than a soft community tank.
The clean white body and pinkish eyes make this fish stand out against dark rockwork, but the care is classic mbuna care: hard alkaline water, strong filtration, vegetable-led food and enough space to manage aggression. It is best for keepers who already understand African cichlid behaviour or are ready to build a proper Rift Lake setup.

Use a mature aquarium with hard alkaline water, open swimming space and stable piles of rock. Build caves and broken sight lines so weaker fish can get out of view, because even a pale albino mbuna still behaves like a territorial rock-dweller.
Strong filtration and surface movement are important. Mbuna are active, messy fish and are often kept in groups, so water quality can slip quickly if filtration is undersized. Use sand or fine gravel, place rockwork securely before adding substrate, and avoid delicate plants that may be disturbed or grazed.
Feed as a herbivorous mbuna. Spirulina flakes, quality vegetable-based cichlid pellets and algae wafers should form the staple diet, with blanched courgette, spinach or peas used as occasional extras. Rich meaty foods should not be a regular part of the diet because they can increase the risk of digestive problems in Malawi mbuna.
Offer small portions once or twice daily and remove leftovers. Constant begging does not mean the fish needs more food; active cichlids often behave hungry even when they are already being fed enough.
Snow White Cichlids are not peaceful community fish. They work best with similarly robust Lake Malawi mbuna in aquariums large enough to spread aggression. Keep one male with several females where possible, or plan a mixed mbuna group carefully so no single fish is trapped or singled out.
Good comparison species include the Coral Red Saulosi Mbuna, Blue OB Masinje Zebra Mbuna, Cynotilapia afra Lions Cowe Sanga and Labidochromis chisumulae Mbweca. Avoid small community fish, shrimp, peaceful soft-water species and cramped mixed cichlid tanks.
When available, livestock from Tropical Fish Co is packed for temperature stability and sent by licensed live-animal courier with our Live Arrival Guarantee. First-time customers can use WELCOME10 where the discount applies. Check the size selector carefully because this product can include more than one Snow White Cichlid size variant.
Is the Snow White Cichlid peaceful? No. It is a territorial mbuna and should be planned like an African cichlid, not a gentle community fish.
What tank size does it need? Use at least 200 litres, with more space for mixed mbuna groups or multiple males.
What should it eat? Use Spirulina flakes, herbivore cichlid pellets, algae wafers and vegetable matter as the main diet.
Can it live with peacock cichlids? Sometimes in larger expert setups, but mbuna are usually best kept with similarly robust mbuna rather than delicate or calmer peacocks.
Is Albino Pindani the same as Snow White Cichlid? In the aquarium trade, Snow White Cichlid usually refers to the albino form of Pindani / Socolofi mbuna.
