Live White Worms (Enchytraeus albidus) are a rich live food for conditioning bettas, killifish, dwarf cichlids and young fish large enough to take them. They work best as a supplementary food, not a daily staple, because overfeeding rich live foods can over-condition fish and affect water quality.
| Food type | Live white worms for aquarium fish |
|---|---|
| Species | Enchytraeus albidus |
| Best for | Bettas, killifish, dwarf cichlids, small carnivorous fish and fry large enough to take them |
| Use | Conditioning and variety food, 1-3 small feeds per week |
| Culture storage | Cool, dark and moist; avoid warm rooms and waterlogged media |
| Feeding caution | Feed only what fish clear quickly and remove leftovers |
Rinse a small portion in dechlorinated water where practical, then feed only enough for the fish to clear within a few minutes. White worms are useful when preparing breeding pairs, tempting reluctant feeders or adding variety for fish that naturally take small live foods.
Keep the diet varied. Rotate white worms with quality flakes, granules, frozen foods and other live foods so your fish get balanced nutrition without relying on one rich food source.
White worms prefer a cool, dark, ventilated container with moist soil, coir or similar culture media. Do not let the culture dry out, but avoid soggy media because stale wet conditions can cause sour smells and culture crashes.
Feed the culture lightly with small amounts of suitable food such as soaked oats, bread or fish food. Remove uneaten culture food before it moulds, and refresh part of the media if production slows.
