Confirm the species and keeping rules first

Cherax quadricarinatus, destructor and tenuimanus names appear alongside offers identified only as Cherax sp. These labels do not establish the same permissions. GOV.UK guidance for England and Wales exempts red-clawed C. quadricarinatus kept in indoor ornamental aquaria from a crayfish licence; other crayfish can require a licence. Confirm the exact animal and the rules for your destination before ordering, especially for an unspecified trade form.

Plan an adult home with secure containment

Red Claw, Blue Kong, Zebra and the other named forms do not share one adult size or water range. Use a secure lid and provide shelter; plan a dedicated crayfish aquarium rather than assuming fish or other crayfish will be safe companions. Plants may be eaten or damaged. Establish which suitable foods the chosen animal accepts and make sure it can reach them, removing uneaten food before it spoils. Zebra and Papua Red Claw grades reach 10cm. Electric Blue Marron’s 10cm and Blue Pearl’s 12–14cm are also supplied sizes, not adult limits. Where the species is unconfirmed, leave a species-specific tank size or water recipe undecided.
