Anubias barteri var. nana - often sold as Dwarf Anubias or simply "Nana" - is one of the toughest and most forgiving live plants in the freshwater hobby. This Tropica plant comes already grown onto a natural coconut shell, so there is nothing to plant: you simply rest it on the substrate or wedge it into your hardscape and it is ready to go.
Anubias is an epiphyte, which means it feeds from the water column rather than the substrate. The single most important rule is to keep the rhizome (the thick horizontal stem) above the substrate - burying it causes the plant to rot. Because this specimen is already attached to a coconut shell, that part is done for you: place the shell where you want it and the roots will keep gripping naturally over time. Its slow growth and undemanding light make it a genuine plant-and-forget choice for low-tech setups.
The thick, leathery leaves are too tough for most fish to eat or uproot, so Anubias nana works where many plants fail - goldfish, cichlid and boisterous community tanks included. It is equally at home in low-tech beginner aquariums, shrimp tanks (where shrimp graze biofilm from the broad leaves) and betta tanks, where bettas like to rest on the flat foliage. In brighter aquariums, wipe or trim the occasional older leaf that collects algae to keep it looking its best.
