Five Bar Cichlid (Lamprologus tretocephalus)
24–27°C · pH 7.8–9 · 200L

The albino, lyretail-finned form of this social Tanganyikan cichlid, ideal for a hard-water tank with rockwork and territories.
Adult size is the maximum length this species reaches at full maturity (scientific sources). The livestock you receive will be younger and smaller — pick a size variant above for the actual shipping size. Photos are AI-enhanced, so the animal may show subtle colour or marking differences.
Lamprologus brichardi albin
Lyretail Lamprologus Albino bond and breed in male/female pairs — buying a pair gives them the social structure they need.

Cichlids are one of the most diverse fish families in the hobby. From tiny apistogrammas to massive oscars, this guide covers the basics of keeping them well.
Maintain these water conditions for optimal health and vibrant colors
The pale, pink-eyed albino form of the lyretail Lamprologus, the Lyretail Lamprologus Albino (Lamprologus brichardi albin) trades the usual fawn body for soft albino colouring while keeping the trailing, lyre-shaped fins that give this Tanganyikan group its name. Reaching around 8cm, it brings flowing movement to the middle of the tank.
This is a fish best known for its family life. Kept in hard, alkaline water with rockwork to anchor a territory, it is an omnivore that occupies the middle region and forms strong pair and group bonds. Those bonds are also when it shows attitude - it can become territorial when breeding, defending its patch from intruders.
Moderate to keep, it suits aquarists who want to watch genuine social and breeding behaviour rather than a static display. A roomy tank lets a colony establish naturally.
Giving this fish a proper home means thinking about territory. A 200-litre or larger tank with rockwork lets a pair or small group stake out their patch, with the water kept between 24 and 27°C, a pH of 7.5 to 8.5 and hardness from 10 to 30 dGH. Stable, hard, alkaline conditions are what allow its natural family behaviour to unfold.
As an omnivore it accepts a varied diet of prepared and frozen foods, which keeps a colony in good condition. The pale albino colouring shows off well against darker rockwork, and with a potential lifespan of around eight years this is a fish you can watch pair, settle and raise young over several seasons - the real draw of the brichardi group.
Pair it with other Tanganyikan cichlids of similar size and temperament in a suitably large tank, Synodontis catfish, and some Julidochromis species only in larger, carefully arranged tanks. Avoid small community fish, fin-nipping species, highly aggressive cichlids, very timid fish and species requiring soft, acidic water. Each order goes out via a licensed live-animal courier, safeguarded by our live arrival guarantee.
