The betta fish is one of the most popular and most misunderstood freshwater species. This guide covers everything from proper tank size to the truth about tank mates.
Maintain these water conditions for optimal health and vibrant colors
Red SuperDelta females bring show-bench finnage to the female side of the hobby: a broad tail approaching — though not quite reaching — the halfmoon's half-circle, carried in strong red on a 6 cm fish. Females of this grade flare and display just as readily as males in the right mood, and many keepers find them livelier day-to-day because the lighter finnage costs less effort to move.
Do not let the sex soften your planning, though. Her record reads semi-aggressive with a clear recommendation: best kept alone, or with very carefully chosen peaceful tank mates in a larger, heavily planted aquarium. Snails are dependable, and peaceful shrimp may settle in some setups while remaining at risk of being hunted. The avoid list covers other bettas — female groups included, on this record — plus fin-nipping fish, aggressive or highly territorial species, large predators and fast boisterous tank mates that outcompete her at feeding time. House her in at least 25 litres at 24–28 °C, pH 6.0–7.5, hardness 1–15 dGH. She works the upper water and can become territorial when breeding condition approaches; moderate care overall.
Females from show lines need their finnage maintained from the inside: protein-led carnivore feeding is what keeps a SuperDelta tail broad and carried well, and on a red fish the same diet feeds colour density directly. Her 24–28 °C band wants an accurate heater rather than a powerful one — 25 litres warms easily — and her water should sit inside pH 6.0–7.5 and 1–15 dGH, checked weekly rather than obsessively. Give her structure in the upper level where she lives. If she is destined for a breeding project, condition her gradually and expect the territorial behaviour her record flags; if she is purely display, simply enjoy a fish that flares like a male and recovers her composure faster.
Strong red females are useful both as standalone display fish and for keepers planning future breeding lines around the SuperDelta tail shape. UK despatch via licensed live-animal courier; live arrival guaranteed on every order.
