The Spotted Skiffia (Skiffia multipunctata) is a member of the Goodeidae family – a group of livebearers found only in the highland lakes and rivers of central Mexico. Unlike the more familiar guppies and platies from the Poeciliidae family, Goodeids have a fundamentally different reproductive biology. Fry are nourished inside the mother via a ribbon-like structure called a trophotaenia, making them true viviparous fish rather than simple egg-retainers.
