Longfin Peppered Cory (Hoplisoma paleatum) – 3–4cm Size Grades

Longfin Peppered Cory is the long-finned aquarium form of the Peppered Cory now placed in Hoplisoma paleatum. The older name Corydoras paleatus remains extremely common in the aquarium trade and is retained here naturally for search and care continuity. Current Shopify size grades are approximately 3–4 cm.

This is a peaceful social catfish, not an algae-control fish. It searches the substrate for edible particles and small animal foods but still needs deliberate feeding. The long fins also make smooth substrate and non-nipping tank mates especially important.

How should I set up the aquarium?

Use fine sand or very smooth small gravel. Peppered Corys probe the substrate with sensitive barbels, and the long-fin form also benefits from avoiding sharp décor. Add plants, wood and shaded resting areas while keeping open feeding space across the front or centre.

Use mature biological filtration with good oxygenation but not a harsh current. These fish naturally tolerate cooler water than many tropical species, so choose companions that genuinely overlap with their temperature range.

What should I feed them?

Use a complete sinking pellet, tablet or granule as the staple. Rotate frozen daphnia, cyclops, brine shrimp or bloodworm in modest portions. Do not rely on leftovers from upper-water fish, and do not buy the species as an algae cleaner.

How many should I keep?

Keep at least six. A group encourages normal foraging, resting and social behaviour. One or two fish may survive, but that is not the preferred welfare plan.
